Spectacular residential masterpiece approved on the South Coast
Gary Green, a Partner of Pikes and Verekers, recently acted for Robby and Sarah Ingham in successfully seeking an approval for a dwelling house on a large coastal parcel of land in Gerringong on the South Coast of NSW.
Robby and Sarah came to us with desires to build a home away from home on a large block of land which had the benefit of spectacular 360 degree views including the Gerringong Boat Harbour to the north, the Illawarra Escarpment to the north west, beaches to the south and, of course, the vast Pacific Ocean.
Despite detailed and painstaking investigations, planning and initial consultation with Council’s staff, our clients’ original proposal was refused consent and we were required to appeal to the Land and Environment Court. In Court, the Council raised numerous legal and planning issues in contentions justifying refusal.
In successfully conciliating an outcome with the Council, Gary worked closely with the foremost consultants in the fields of architecture, planning, design, visual impact, landscaping and engineering. In conjunction with those consultants, we gave guidance in amending the proposal so that it respected the need to preserve public vistas of an iconic part of the world. The amended proposal ultimately met the requirements of the Council but, more importantly, also met the expectations of our clients. At the end of the day, a stunning piece of land needed a stately proposal and not one of our clients’ requirements for the rural retreat were traded away.
Whilst technically correct in a planning sense, the term “dwelling house” does not do justice to the approval as the result is an architectural masterpiece and statement. Robby and Sarah will soon have a home away from home that all involved with the approval process have been immensely proud to be part of.
